QUestions?

Let Heather take the guess work out of booking your excursion

Want to break away from the masses with confidence that you’ll get back for your all aboard time?  Do you have small children or family with mobility issues? From beer to birthday cake, we’re glad to assist with special needs and wants to make your charter a personal and memorable experience.

How do I find my charter boat?

We dock at D-18 in Haines and A-7 in Skagway.  After booking we’ll email a detailed map from your ship dock to ours.

Will we catch fish?

We are expecting really good fishing this year!

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game is projecting a strong 2023 return of our local Chilkat King stock.  We have great action on most of our trips but fishing is fishing. Sometimes we have a fish on every 15 minutes. Other times we hunt for the first bite.  Only one way to find out!

What kind of wildlife will we see?

You’ll see lots of Bald Eagles and migratory birds.  Sea lions, harbor seals,  harbor porpoises are very common sightings.  Humpback whales tend to frequent our waters in the early and late summer.  Orca are less common but we do see them many times during the summer.  You’ll never know unless you go.

A new name.  a new boat.  a new attitude!

Welcome to Carpe Diem Excursions formerly called Haines Family Fishing and Skagway Salmon Fishing before that. We’ve changed our name and upgraded our vessels but we’re still a family business with a focus on getting the most out of each moment.  We give you the service we would expect in your place.  Your time and money are precious. We help families make cherished memories in Alaska’s pristine waterways.

"Thrilled to find Haines Family Fishing. Experiencing fishing out of Haines with our family of 5 was a much needed break from the touristy towns and group excursions off the cruise ship. It felt like our only "real" Alaskan adventure...crew were extremely professional and organized, which was appreciated.."

"Hands down one of the highlights of our Alaska vacation. To start off I would like to thank Heather for getting everything set up for this unforgettable trip. I would also like to thank our captain for taking us on this journey.
This was not just a fishing trip but also a scenic and wildlife trip which we saw plenty of...but the highlight of the trip was definitely seeing a whale completely breach."

"The views all around Haines are just spectacular. The knowledge Asanti had about the area really helped us to appreciate the trip even more. Asanti was quick to answer any questions...and had our group feeling more like he was a close friend than our fishing captain.
I would highly recommend this trip to anyone who is thinking about it."
